The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Echeng Echeng, presented cheques worth N38 million to 16 families of deceased police officers attached to the command. The beneficiaries received the cheques at the state police headquarters in Awka on Wednesday. The presentation was made on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Baba Alkali.

The statement by the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that the gesture is part of the IGP's family welfare and insurance scheme aimed at supporting the families of police officers who died in active service. The scheme is also designed to motivate officers to perform their duties with the assurance that their welfare is of utmost importance to the leadership of the force. The statement reads, "It is also aimed at spurring officers to greatness while discharging their statutory duties with the assurance that their welfare is of paramount importance to the leadership of the Force."

During the presentation, the CP thanked the Inspector-General of Police for his efforts in ensuring a good welfare package for personnel of the force. He urged the beneficiaries to use the money wisely by investing in profitable ventures that will help to alleviate the needs of the dependents left behind.

The gesture is a commendable one, as it shows that the police force is not only concerned about the welfare of its serving officers but also about the families of those who have paid the ultimate price in service to their country. It is hoped that other states will emulate this example and provide similar support to the families of their fallen heroes.
