The latest offer from Manchester United, consisting of £50 million with an additional £5 million in add-ons for Mason Mount, has been turned down by Chelsea. This bid marks the third attempt by Manchester United to secure the player's services.

In response, Chelsea has made a counter-proposal of £58 million with an additional £7 million in add-ons. The club has also expressed willingness to meet with Manchester United in person to find a positive resolution to the situation.

Mason Mount, who is 24 years old, last played for Chelsea in their Champions League quarter-final defeat against Real Madrid on April 18. Unfortunately, a hip injury ended his season prematurely, and Chelsea finished 12th in the league standings.

Due to his injury, Mount was unable to be selected for England's European qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia this month. This absence provided manager Gareth Southgate the opportunity to experiment with other midfield options, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Declan Rice, and Jordan Henderson.

While Mount has one year remaining on his current contract with Chelsea and has reportedly shown interest in joining Erik ten Hag's team, Chelsea is determined to receive fair compensation for their academy graduate.

The response from Manchester United remains uncertain, as there were indications that their third bid would be their final offer before pursuing alternative targets.

Manchester United's third bid represents an increase from their initial £40 million offer by £15 million, surpassing their second bid of £45 million plus £5 million. However, it falls £10 million short of Chelsea's revised valuation of £65 million for the player.

If Chelsea allows Mount to join Manchester United, it would mean the club has sold three key players to three different Premier League rivals. Midfielder Mateo Kovacic is currently undergoing medical tests ahead of his £30 million move to Manchester City, while Kai Havertz is finalizing his transfer to Arsenal for just over £65 million.

While Chelsea is in need of selling players, allowing three prominent stars to join their rivals would be seen as a risky decision.

Since his first-team debut in 2019, Mason Mount has scored 33 goals in 195 appearances for Chelsea. He played a crucial role in their Champions League triumph in 2021 and has also won the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup with the club. Furthermore, he has represented England on 36 occasions.
