Tragic incident unfolds at Gateway Polytechnic as two students and an applicant meet an untimely demise after consuming a spaghetti meal.
The bodies of the deceased were discovered on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, causing shock and grief to engulf the entire institution.
According to reports from The Punch, the unfortunate incident occurred when five individuals, comprising four students of the school and one applicant awaiting admission, experienced severe stomach problems after eating the spaghetti meal.
Sadly, two students and the applicant succumbed to their ailments, while the remaining two students are currently undergoing medical treatment.
The three confirmed victims have been identified as Bakari Habbeb, an ND2 student from the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Odu Selen, an ND1 student from the Department of Mass Communication, and Hameed, an applicant for the 23/24 academic session.
The sudden and tragic deaths have sent shockwaves throughout the institution and beyond.
In an official circular jointly signed by the school's Student Union President, Olatunji Idowu Alexander, and the SUG PRO, Tanimowo Joel, it was stated that investigations are underway to determine the cause of death.
A section of the circular reads as follows:
"It is with great grief in our heart that the Student Union Government (SUG) announces the passing on of three of our students in a household incident overnight. We share in the grief of the management of the Institution, families, and all well-wishers in this unpleasant incident. As much as the cause of their death remains unknown at the time of this release, we assure the public a well-detailed investigation and get to the root of the matter, come what may."
