MainOne, a Digital Infrastructure Service Provider, has announced the partial restoration of service to some customers and ongoing efforts to fully restore all services utilizing capacity obtained from available cable systems.
This statement came in response to reports suggesting a two to five-week timeframe for the restoration of internet services. MainOne clarified that the earlier estimated repair time was specifically for addressing a submarine cable fault.
“The repair time is to enable our services to become fully restored and independently supply capacity to customers.
“We have already restored services to some customers and are actively working on restoring services to others via capacity acquired on available cable systems,’’ the statement said.
Earlier, MainOne acknowledged the impact of the outage and assured stakeholders of its commitment to swiftly restore capacity for temporary relief where feasible.
‘’We are very optimistic that our cable will be repaired as planned and services fully restored so that we can continue to operate with continued integrity of the submarine cable,” it said.
The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) had attributed the internet disruptions experienced by various entities to damage affecting major undersea cables near Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire, causing downtime across West and South African countries.
The NCC reported that the affected cables included West African Cable System (WACS), African Coast to Europe (ACE), SAT3, and MainOne, resulting in service degradation across affected routes.
MainOne, an Equinix company, operates as a prominent data center and connectivity solution provider, serving Nigeria, Ghana, and Cote d’Ivoire.
