The Lagos State Ministry of Justice is preparing to bring charges against Chrisland High School, Ikeja, as well as certain staff members, for alleged Involuntary Manslaughter and Reckless and Negligent Acts related to the death of 12-year-old student Whitney Adeniran. The incident in question occurred during a sports event held on February 9, 2023. According to a statement released by the Director of Public Affairs, Adeniran reportedly collapsed during the event and was subsequently taken to Agege Central Hospital, where she was declared "brought in dead" by the doctor on duty. The case was initially referred to the Nigerian Police Force, which conducted a thorough investigation before forwarding the file to the DPP's Office on March 20, 2023, for review of the duplicate case file. On March 23, 2023, the DPP issued his Legal Advice and concluded that a prima facie case of Involuntary Manslaughter and Reckless and Negligent Acts had been established against the school, some staff members, and one vendor. The defendants will be charged with the aforementioned offenses under Sections 224 and 251 of the Criminal Law, Ch C17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015. The Ministry of Justice has made certified true copies of the Legal Advice available on its website, www.lagosstatemoj.org.[/p]
