Born in France but raised in Spain, Hernandez began his youth career at Rayo Majadahonda and Atletico Madrid before progressing to Atletico's senior team. In 2019, he joined Bayern Munich and enjoyed a successful four-year spell with the German giants, winning the Bundesliga title every season, as well as the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2020. However, his playing time was limited last season due to a knee ligament injury suffered while representing France at the World Cup, resulting in just 11 appearances for Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen expressed gratitude to Hernandez for his contributions during their four years together, highlighting his fighting spirit and passion. PSG has been active in the transfer market, making significant moves to strengthen the squad after another season without Champions League success. Alongside the signing of Hernandez, PSG has appointed Luis Enrique as their new coach and brought in players such as Marco Asensio, Milan Skriniar, Manuel Ugarte, and Lee Kang-In. The club has also seen the departure of Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, and Mauro Icardi, among others.
