In a departure from previous years, where a contract renewal for Modric seemed probable, the situation has become less certain, marked by his recent absence from the starting lineup for the first time since 2018.
Last summer, Modric opted to decline a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, indicating his strong desire to continue his association with Real Madrid. However, recent developments have introduced a degree of ambiguity, with manager Carlo Ancelotti hinting that the decision ultimately rests with the veteran midfielder.

When queried about Modric's future, Ancelotti offered praise for the Croatian maestro, stating, “He is a legend of this club and of football. He will have to make the decisions for next season.”
Modric, in the past, has expressed his hesitance to commit to Real Madrid solely based on being a regular starter. This season, he has featured in the starting lineup only 13 times, making a total of 24 appearances and contributing one goal and six assists over 1,250 minutes on the pitch.
