Karim Benzema has reportedly made a surprising U-turn regarding his future, choosing to reject a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia and stay with Real Madrid for the upcoming season. The 35-year-old striker had previously agreed to a new one-year contract extension with Real in March and was expected to sign the deal at the end of the current season. However, he was tempted by an enticing offer from Saudi Arabia’s Pro League, specifically from reigning champions Al-Ittihad, who were ready to offer him a two-year contract worth an astonishing €400 million (£346m/$439m).

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Benzema has not communicated his desire to leave Real Madrid, and his intention has always been to remain with the club. The report also states that the Frenchman had no intention of departing the Bernabeu this summer, contrary to earlier speculation.

Despite being appreciative of the substantial contract offered by Saudi Arabia, Benzema reportedly wants to leave Real Madrid on a high note. He allegedly believes he has unfinished business in the Spanish capital after a somewhat underwhelming season for the club.

Addressing the rumors on June 1, Benzema dismissed the speculation surrounding his potential move, stating, "What is said comes from the Internet. And the Internet is not reality."

Benzema will conclude the season with Real Madrid on June 4, as they face Athletic Club in their final La Liga match. Meanwhile, Ronaldo, who is also linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, expressed hope that other established players would join him in the Middle East, stating that the league would greatly benefit from the arrival of big-name players, regardless of their age.

With Benzema's decision to stay, Real Madrid can now shift their focus back to other areas of their squad, including finalizing a deal for England's rising star Jude Bellingham.
