Renowned Nigerian musician, Divine Ikubor, widely known as Rema, has responded to allegations of wearing a "demonic" mask, attributing it to a recreation of the bronzes representing his ancestors.
Following his performance at the 02 arena in London, Rema faced accusations of being affiliated with the Illuminati, sparked by the distinctive mask he wore.
Coming to his defense, an informed fan from Benin City clarified that the mask depicted Queen Idia, a National hero in the Benin Kingdom.
Today, Rema took to addressing the controversy surrounding the mask he wore during his 02 entrance.
According to him, the mask is a reinterpretation of the bronze artworks depicting his ancestors, some of which are housed in the London museum.
Rema asserts that through this artistic expression, he has redefined Edo state, placing it on the global map.
In his words;
“RAVAGE UPRISING/ My Ancestors' bronzes sit in the museum of this very city so I remade mine. Hence, Edo is redefined, the map reshaped, your minds awakened & the mask reborn. Thank you London! 🦇🇬🇧”
