Actress, Mercy Aigbe’s husband, Kazim Adeoti, has explained the reasons behind his decision not to celebrate his first wife, Olufunsho Adeoti’s, 50th birthday on social media, following widespread speculation and criticism from netizens.
It should be recalled that Olufunsho recently celebrated her 50th birthday in the United States, where she marked the milestone with a well-attended event. Despite the joyous occasion, Kazim Adeoti was noticeably absent from the celebration, and his lack of public acknowledgement on social media sparked backlash online.

He stated that he had respected her wishes, even though they were painful to him.
In his statement, Adeoti explained: “This is to address the recent media comments surrounding Mrs. Olufunsho Adeoti’s 50th birthday celebration which was held in the US last weekend. For the avoidance of doubt, the celebrant spoke about her plan for her 50th birthday party and how she wished to celebrate it. She wanted a party but shockingly she specifically said I should not attend. I asked her again to be sure in the presence of our children, and to everybody’s surprise, her response was consistent—she said NO.”
He went on to say that he chose to stay back in Nigeria to avoid causing any discomfort or embarrassment by attending the event against her wishes. Despite his absence, Kazim revealed that he continued to support Olufunsho behind the scenes, both morally and financially, to ensure the success of her birthday celebration.
“Regardless of how painful her position was to me, I ensured that I supported her morally and financially towards the success of the party. I also informed and ensured some of our families and friends in the USA honoured her big day,” Adeoti added.
He also clarified that although he did not celebrate Olufunsho on social media, he had wished her a happy birthday in private, and she had acknowledged it pleasantly.
“As I always do, I wished her a happy birthday offline, and she acknowledged pleasantly,” he wrote, further emphasizing his continued respect for her as the mother of his four children.
“Olufunsho remains a significant part of my life. I can never wish her anything other than what is beautiful in life because she is the proud mother of my four lovely children. That can never be undone. In fact, it is the most important thing in my life.”
In his statement, Kazim also appealed to the public and social media users, urging them to stop making baseless comments about his family, and to respect their privacy. He emphasized the importance of peace, reminding everyone that “social media is not real life.”
“I therefore appeal to members of the public, especially on social media and particularly the Facebook community, to desist from making unfounded and distorted comments about my family if you truly love and care about us. The best way to support us is to let peace reign, as social media is not real life,” Adeoti concluded.
