Famous Afrobeat singer, Mayorkun, shared a fascinating revelation about the pivotal moment in his career during an episode of the Tea With Tay podcast, hosted by actor Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh, a.k.a Taymesan.
Mayorkun disclosed that in 2016, while working at a bank, he nearly deleted a cover video showcasing his freestyle skills with a keyboard due to low phone memory. Instead of erasing it, he decided to upload it to his Twitter account, a decision that would change the trajectory of his career significantly.
To his surprise, the video went viral, catching the attention of none other than Davido. Davido not only liked the video but also followed Mayorkun, marking the beginning of a significant journey as Mayorkun became a key signee of DMW Records.
Reflecting on the fortuitous event, Mayorkun shared, “One of my mum’s friends gave me an iPhone 6 with a small memory size, and I had that video on it and wanted to delete it to free up some space. Something told me to put it on Twitter, and at least, e go dey Twitter if e no dey your phone. I posted it and noticed my phone buzzing inside the bank wey I dey vex. It was one weekend I went to ACCA classes. Davido liked and followed.”
