A young Nigerian man recently found himself at the center of online controversy after leaving his date with a staggering ₦69,000 bill at a luxurious restaurant in Lagos, sparking widespread discussion across social media platforms. The incident, which at first seemed like a routine date, quickly turned into a viral story when the man abruptly left the venue without paying, leaving his date and her friend to cover the hefty expenses on their own.
According to details that emerged, the man, identified as @olayinka.brain on Tiktok, had planned an extravagant dinner at a well-known upscale restaurant. Both he and his date, along with a friend each, indulged in an array of premium dishes and high-end drinks, leading to a sizable bill at the end of the evening. However, just before it was time to settle the bill, the man and his friend excused themselves, leaving the women to wait in vain for their return.
As minutes turned into hours and the man failed to reappear, the situation grew more awkward and distressing for the women, who were eventually forced to pay the entire ₦69,000 themselves. The story quickly gained traction on social media, where users were quick to share their thoughts on the man's shocking behavior.
Amidst the growing backlash, the man finally broke his silence and took to social media to explain his side of the story, revealing the reasons behind his actions. In a now-viral post, he admitted to leaving the date but claimed that there were valid reasons for his decision.
“I saw you online and met you; I sent you N10K instead of N500 for transport fare. You didn’t tell me you would come to the date with your friend and I had drank herbs hoping for some fun. We were at the bar, you don’t know my aza balance; you and your friend ordered up to N50K while me and my friend order asun with Hollandia yoghurt and you expect me not to run?” he explained in part of his statement.
The man's confession only fueled the ongoing debate, with many criticizing him for his actions while others found humor in his candid explanation. The situation has since continued to dominate conversations online, with many weighing in on who was truly at fault in the bizarre date gone wrong.
