A woman from a WhatsApp group expressed her frustration online when a fellow member, whom they had collectively contributed to, used the funds to relocate to Canada.
Ego-Mbute, in a series of tweets, shared her dismay, revealing that she joined the WhatsApp group in March 2023.
The group administrator had explained that the objective was to raise funds for their former classmate, currently pregnant with her third child and whose husband was unemployed.
According to Ego-Mbute, every member of the group contributed, with amounts ranging from N50,000 to N500,000.
To her shock, on January 1, 2024, Ego-Mbute came across a Facebook post from their coursemate expressing gratitude for spending eight months visiting family in Canada.
Concerned, Ego-Mbute contacted the group admin for clarification, only to discover that the beneficiary had blocked her after receiving the donations.
