Tinubu signs Students’ Loan Bill, aiding needy students in accessing education

[p]President Bola Tinubu signed into law a students' loan bill on Monday, which aims to enable indigent students in the country to obtain a quality education. The announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr. David Adejo Andrew, in the presence of President Tinubu's media team, led by Mr. Dele Alake, a member of the Presidential Strategic Team, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

[p]The President's assent to the bill, which offers interest-free loans, fulfills his commitment to liberalize education funding in the country.

[p]Speaking to reporters in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary stated, "We are very happy to announce to you that today (Monday), just a few minutes ago, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed into law the Student Loans Bill. This bill, as you all know, signifies a significant development in our education sector."

[p]He continued, "During the presidential campaign, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu promised to bring the student loans issue to the forefront, and today, he has fulfilled that promise by signing the bill into law. This law will now enable our indigent students to access federal government loans to support their educational pursuits or careers, aligning with established practices in other developed countries."

[p]The student loan bill was sponsored by the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and it provides interest-free loans to financially disadvantaged Nigerian students.
