The founder of NairaLand, Seun Osewa, has issued an apology to the Igbo people of Nigeria over a political advert that was placed on his platform during the recently concluded elections. The apology comes after an ad on his website which stated, "Lagos [/b]can never be run from Anambra; go and vote," was deemed ethnically divisive by many.
In his apology posted on his website, Seun expressed regret for allowing such an ad to run on NairaLand and acknowledged that it should have been taken down instantly. He stated that his platform should have had a "clear policy" against such misleading adverts and that they should have communicated it to all advertisers.
Seun also promised to double the N16K made from the ad and donate it to victims of "political violence in Lagos" as a means to further express his regret. He urged Nigerians not to give up on the country despite the challenging times, and emphasized the need for unity to overcome the country's challenges.
The apology from Seun Osewa has been well received by many, with some commending him for taking responsibility and showing remorse for the ad. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for responsible advertising and the importance of avoiding messages that could be perceived as divisive or harmful to any ethnic group.
