A Nigerian boss has sparked online outrage by sharing a photo of the food list and prices his cook sent to him for one week's worth of meals.

The cook sent the bill to him for the week’s supply of stew and vegetable soup, revealing an itemized breakdown that left many netizens in disbelief.

According to the list, the prices included a staggering N7,000 for a kilogram of turkey, N6,000 for chicken, N6,000 for fish, N6,000 per kilogram for cow leg, N2,000 for ponmo (cow skin) per kilogram, N1,500 for stockfish, N1,000 for pepper, N1,000 for crayfish, N1,500 for palm oil, N1,500 for vegetable oil, N500 for Maggi seasoning, N3,000 for tomatoes, N500 for spice, and N2,000 for vegetables. The total cost of the ingredients amounted to an eye-watering N40,500.

Expressing his shock, the boss wrote, “Cook sends me a bill for Stew and vegetable soup for this week. A stark reminder that Food inflation in Lagos is higher than in the Nation. All eyes on the @cenbank and their inflation targeting going forward #food #inflation #costofliving.”

However, netizens scrutinizing the list found the prices to be highly inflated, leading to a Twitter backlash. Surprisingly, the cook then reduced the prices in response to the online criticism.

In an update, the boss shared, “PRICE UPDATE: Cow leg sellers aren’t around on Sunday (in this area anyway) so we removed that. After sharing Twitter comments with my cook, the Chicken price has magically come down, same for Turkey and Fish.”
