Man shocked as wife becomes pregnant despite vasectomy

A Kenyan man named Medgclay has found himself perplexed as his wife, Beryl, became pregnant despite his previous vasectomy. In an online account shared by the 38-year-old man from Kakamega, he revealed that he already had three children and did not wish to have more. To address this, he underwent a surgical procedure known as vasectomy, which involves cutting or sealing the sperm tubes to permanently prevent the ability to father children. Medgclay explained that he had the surgery in July 2022 and was informed by the surgeon that he would be safe to have unprotected intercourse with his wife after a two-month period.

Expressing his motives in a viral video, Medgclay stated, "I felt like we have always left family planning to women, and so after we had three children, I wanted to take the responsibility and undergo the procedure myself." However, it came as a shock to him when he discovered that his wife was pregnant. Doctors explained that this could be due to some remaining sperm in the duct.

In the video clip, Medgclay shared, "We decided to have the procedure as it lasts and is very efficient. In November, my wife's periods were late, and in December, we realized she was pregnant. This is something we did not plan as she had given birth through a cesarean section the same year. When I was told that I should wait before vasectomy is effective, my wife used daily pills as contraception. It was such a stressful time for us because my wife had undergone two cesarean sections prior to that. We were informed that this happens when there are some sperm left in the ducts or just a failure of the whole procedure."

The man further mentioned that the doctor had advised him, "You will need to continue to use other birth control methods until your semen sample comes back completely sperm-free and you get the okay. This usually takes about two months or 20 ejaculations."

The situation has garnered attention on social media, with a video of Medgclay's account being shared by Citizen TV Kenya.
