Man from Akwa Ibom paraded for killing his son in an argument

An individual named Aniekan James was paraded by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command after being accused of killing his only son, Odudu James, who was 35 years old. The Commissioner of Police for the state, Olatoye Durosinmi, disclosed during the parade of the suspect and 268 others apprehended for various offenses that Aniekan is believed to have taken multiple lives in Lagos and Abia states.

The arrest of the suspect took place on June 16, 2023, by operatives from the Ukanafun Division. According to the Police Commissioner, the incident occurred when Aniekan James, residing in Ikot Ndot village in Ukanafun LGA, shot his son following a verbal dispute. The suspect is described as a habitual murderer with previous murder cases in Lagos and Aba states.

In addition to this case, the Commissioner presented another individual suspected of kidnapping the vice-chancellor of a private university. The vice-chancellor was abducted while on his way home by his former household staff. The Police Commissioner confirmed that the outstanding ransom amount, which exceeded N2 million, was successfully recovered, along with the Toyota Corolla used in the abduction. The vice-chancellor has been reunited with his family.

Providing further details, the police boss stated, "On April 14, 2023, at around 10:30 am, the vice-chancellor of a private university in the state was kidnapped during his journey back home. Two days later, on the 16th, our anti-kidnap squad conducted a prompt and discreet investigation, leading to the arrest of Prince Thursday Okon, a former domestic worker of the VC. Okon was dismissed due to his criminal tendencies but later orchestrated the kidnapping. He was apprehended alongside two accomplices, Saviour Sunday Luke and Richard Friday, both from Ikot Ebam village in Mkpan Enin LGA. As part of the ransom paid, we recovered a total of N1,270,000 in cash, while N250,000 was found in one of the suspects' accounts. Additionally, the Toyota Corolla used in the operation was also recovered. The VC has since been reunited with his family."
