This incident unfolded in Bukwo District, where Maikut, the suitor, caused astonishment and anger among his would-be bride's family by arriving without the expected dowry.

In an unconventional move, Maikut informed the family that he intended to marry their daughter in a traditional manner and expected them to bear the expenses of organizing the introduction ceremony.

Anticipating Maikut's arrival with four cows and three goats, as agreed upon, the bride's family invested a substantial amount, totaling $1200, in preparations for the ceremony.

However, on the anticipated day, Maikut arrived empty-handed, violating the terms of the agreement. Furthermore, he appeared 20 minutes late, causing additional disappointment and tension.

The upset bride's family interrogated Maikut about his failure to honor the agreement, and he could not provide a satisfactory explanation.

Concerned about escalating tensions and a potential physical altercation, local authorities were summoned, leading to Maikut's arrest by the police.

Subsequently, the remorseful 60-year-old pledged to compensate the bride's family for the financial losses incurred due to the failed ceremony.

In his defense, Maikut shifted blame onto his organizing team, citing challenges without elaborating. "I am sorry for what happened, but I am ready to discuss issues of compensation for the losses involved in the function," said Maikut.
