The incident came to the governor's attention while he was in Saudi Arabia for Hajj. It has been reported that Babangida Sarki allegedly posted gay content on his WhatsApp status over the weekend. Following the discovery, Governor Nasiru Idris decided to relieve Sarki of his position as the special adviser on youths. The governor's media aide clarified that Sarki's phone was not hacked and that a thorough investigation was conducted, during which Sarki confessed to uploading the pictures himself.
