Notable musician and former signee of Olamide's YBNL label, Temmie Ovwasa, has raised her voice against the toxicity prevalent in the Nigerian music industry. Her comments come in the wake of the tragic passing of singer Mohbad, which was connected to issues with his former record label, Marlian Records, and its leader, Naira Marley.
Ovwasa shed light on the perilous activities that often occur behind the scenes in the music industry. She emphasized how some label bosses manipulate and endanger the lives of their artists. When artists dare to speak out, they face attempts to silence them, sometimes even risking their lives.
The former YBNL signee made it clear that she values her peace of mind above any music career aspirations, declaring that she has no intention of taking her music career to the afterlife.
In her own words:
"When people speak out about the politics and toxicity in the music industry, the games these labels play with people’s lives and minds, believe them. Your faves are strangers to you, you don’t know them, and I promise y’all have no clue how deep it runs.
Dangerous men playing dangerous games,
People speak up and it’s victim blaming till someone is unalived. Then the crocodile tears and messages start pouring in for one week, after that everyone moves on,
My peace of mind and life over any oloriburuku career I no Dey carry career go heaven. I promise y’all don’t know the half of it, Awon olofo gbogbo!”
