The NDLEA launched an intensive manhunt for the fugitive Sowunmi Ayodeji Kayode after he employed a shocking escape strategy: using his luxury vehicle to run down an NDLEA officer who was part of a team searching his residence over the weekend.

According to the agency's spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the operation was prompted by reliable intelligence indicating that Sowunmi Ayodeji Kayode was involved in illicit drug activities within his dwelling situated at Number 2/3 Adetola Ayeni close, Lekki, Lagos.

Although Sowunmi Ayodeji Kayode wasn't present at his residence when the NDLEA operatives arrived, he returned while the search was underway. In a startling turn of events, upon seeing the NDLEA officers, he reversed his vehicle, striking and injuring one officer, and then forcibly breached his own gate and crashed into a neighboring compound's fence. The impact of the collision even brought down the concrete wall of the adjacent property, allowing him to escape on foot.

During the search of his residence, 10.5 kilograms of Loud (a type of drug) were discovered. The injured NDLEA operative suffered multiple injuries and sustained compound fractures in both legs due to the incident. He is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment.

In response to this unfortunate incident, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, has ordered the deployment of appropriate operational resources to track down Sowunmi Ayodeji Kayode and bring him to justice. Additionally, he has authorized comprehensive medical care for the injured officer to facilitate his swift recovery.
