Abdulgafar disclosed that he resorted to masquerading as a lawyer due to his resentment towards his father, who allegedly abandoned his mother while she was pregnant with him. Additionally, financial constraints forced Abdulgafar to drop out of the University of Ibadan during his second year of studying law. In an act of defiance and vengeance, he chose to impersonate a lawyer and engage in fraudulent activities within court premises.

Expressing remorse for his actions, Abdulgafar attributed his decisions to the destructive influence of his father on his life. He claimed that his father disowned him and neglected his responsibilities as a parent. The state Commandant, Agboola Sunday, confirmed the suspect's fraudulent activities, stating that Abdulgafar swindled Point of Sale (POS) agents within court premises across various states while posing as a lawyer.

Providing details of one such incident, Sunday narrated how Abdulgafar, dressed in full legal attire, requested the services of a driver on May 23, 2023, to transport him from the State High Court in Osogbo to the Federal High Court in Akure. Upon arrival at the court, Abdulgafar interacted with lawyers, exchanged pleasantries, and then approached a POS attendant within the court premises, persuading her to transfer one hundred and fifty thousand naira. He gained access to the driver's phone under the pretext of sharing internet connectivity to facilitate the transaction. However, he vanished within the court premises, only to be traced to Ilorin, Kwara State, where he defrauded another driver of one hundred thousand naira before his eventual arrest.

The commander expressed his concerns about the suspect's actions, highlighting the need to address such fraudulent practices within the legal system. The investigation into Abdulgafar's activities is ongoing, and he will face appropriate legal consequences for his fraudulent acts.
