The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has officially confirmed an alarming incident at his Yola residence involving suspected members of Boko Haram. The news came to light after Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, posted about it on his Twitter account on Monday, 24th of July, expressing deep concern for the safety of the former Vice President. Omokri further urged the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

In response to the public's apprehension, Atiku's media office issued a statement on Monday, confirming that the police have made significant progress in the case by apprehending four suspects connected to the plot to attack his residence. According to the statement, the incident occurred around 9:44 pm on Sunday, 23rd July, 2023, when a man was caught trying to gain access to Atiku Abubakar's residence in Yola. Security operatives promptly apprehended the individual and handed him over to the police for further investigation.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Jubrila Mohammed, made a startling confession during police interrogation, revealing that he is a member of the notorious Boko Haram group hailing from Damboa in Borno State. Even more alarming, the suspect disclosed that he and his accomplices had sinister intentions to attack organizations associated with Atiku Abubakar and several other sensitive locations in Yola.

The authorities wasted no time, and all four suspects were promptly handed over to the military for necessary action. In light of the gravity of the situation, Atiku Abubakar's media office extended commendations to the police for their diligent efforts in this particular investigation, while urging other relevant security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in their responsibilities to safeguard the nation's security.
