The largest lottery prize in US history was won last year by Edwin Castro, who has now been photographed for the first time since claiming his record-breaking $2 billion Powerball jackpot nearly three months ago. Castro opted for a one-time lump sum payout and received $997.6 million, half of which he donated to the California public school system. He has remained out of the public eye, with no media interviews since his win.

On Wednesday, April 26th, Castro was photographed taking out a large envelope of cash from a Chase bank, with his newly recruited security team protecting him. In the photos released on [a href="https://www.instagram.com/yabaleftonline"]social media[/a], the lucky 30-year-old is seen wearing a quarter-zip Under Armour shirt, sweatpants, and flip-flops.

When Castro was announced as the winner of the lottery, he issued a statement which was read by Powerball officials. In the statement, he said, “As much as I am shocked and ecstatic to have won the Powerball drawing, the real winner is the California public school system. The mission of the California Lottery, which is to provide supplemental funding for California public education – both public schools and colleges – makes this a huge win for the state. As someone who received the rewards of being educated in the California public education system, it’s gratifying to hear that, as a result of my win, the California school system greatly benefits as well.”

Since his win, Castro has invested in real estate, acquiring two multi-million-dollar properties in just one month. In March, he purchased a Hollywood Hills estate in California for $25.5 million and a mansion with views of the San Gabriel Mountains for $4 million, which is located in his hometown of Altadena, not far from the gas station where he bought his winning Powerball ticket. The properties are a massive upgrade from his former one-bedroom home in Altadena, which can be seen in the pictures below.

Castro also splurged on a $250,000 vintage Porsche 911 which he has been seen driving around town with a friend.
