An airplane belonging to Max Air crash-landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on May 7, and its tyre burst into flames, creating a terrifying scene. Former President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Mike Ogirima, confirmed the incident and said the tyre burst happened after take-off at Yola Airport. Luckily, operatives of Aerodrome Rescue and Fire-fighting Service (ARFFS) were already on the ground at the airport and helped put out the fire after the airplane crash-landed.

Dr. Ogirima also stated that the passengers were safely disembarked from the runway and the aircraft was evacuated. The runway was temporarily shut down until the plane was removed.

He further recounted, "We thank God. We are still on the runway and pilot has reassured us. He has called for the stairs and we are now disembarking from the runway to be evacuated to the airport building at the arrival hall. We bless God because we have witnessed the pull out of the tyre right from the airport in Yola and we went into prayer session. I never announced it as a surgeon so as not to cause any panic but we bless God."
