Adamawa scammer posing as a ghost arrested by police

The Adamawa State Police apprehended a man, Malam Sabo, who allegedly engages in fraudulent activities by assuming the persona of a ghost to deceive community residents. This information was officially confirmed by the Nigeria Police Force through a statement released on Tuesday night on its Twitter feed (X).

The 59-year-old suspect, identified as Muhammad Abubakar, is described as a seasoned 419 scam artist who has been preying on residents by adopting the guise of a ghost. Abubakar was taken into custody on February 5, 2024.

The police statement reveals that the suspect, with a knack for deception, employs voice distortion techniques to mimic a woman or child during communication with unsuspecting victims, showcasing a level of mastery in his deceptive methods.

According to the police, Abubakar employed his crafty approach to defraud one Abba Bale of the sum of N300,000. The official statement reads:

“Adamawa State Police Command on 5/2/2024 arrested a 59-year-old man for frequently defrauding members of the public. The suspect, Muhammad Abubakar, aka Malam Sabo, is said to be a habitual 419 artist who specializes in defrauding members of the public in a disguised manner.

Mostly, the suspect conceals his identity, pretending to be a ghost and communicating with his victims using different voices. The suspect, at times, alters his voice to sound like that of a woman or a child to deceive his victims. Recently, he tricked and duped one Abba Bale of Demsawo of the sum of three hundred thousand (N300,000.00).”
