A young lady shares her story of how she met her husband, who confidently predicted that she would break up with her boyfriend and expressed his love for her. Their paths crossed during the NYSC program when she was already in a committed relationship.
Despite her relationship status, the man pursued her relentlessly and patiently waited until her previous relationship ended on a sour note.
How I Met My Husband
“The COVID-19 pandemic brought despair to the world, but it marked the beginning of sweet love in my life."
At the time, I was serving in Ibadan, and I had returned home for a few days. Shortly after arriving, I received a call from a guy asking if I was home. Confirming that I was, I inquired if he knew my house, to which he remained silent.
Moments later, he called again, informing me that he was outside the gate. Thinking he wanted to purchase a bracelet (pardon my curiosity 🙈), I went to meet him, only for him to express his affection for me. I was taken aback.
Despite being in a relationship, I didn't take him seriously, but he persisted, coming to see me every day. I had planned to return to Ibadan after a week, but fate had other plans. The lockdown was imposed, and NYSC officials instructed us to stay at home. Since I was already home, I remained there.
We started spending time together daily. I informed him about my boyfriend, but he confidently said, "You guys will break up, don't worry." Interestingly, my relationship began to sour, with frequent fights (mind you, my then-boyfriend was not in the country).
He picked me up every day, taking me to his store. I started giving him advice on improving his business, and he listened attentively. Eventually, my then-boyfriend and I broke up.
Gradually, I developed feelings for him, and I can't recall exactly how I said yes to him. We simply realized that we couldn't be without each other. Our dating days were filled with amazing moments. The proposal he planned for me was heavenly and took place on my birthday.
The first surprise came from Royal Hugs (my favorite surprise planner 🥰), and I couldn't hold back my tears of joy (though something might have gotten into my eyes 😜). "Happy" was an understatement for how I felt that day.
Later that evening, he suggested we go on a dinner date with his friends and brother on a yacht, unaware that he had planned a proposal for me. On my birthday, November 24, 2021, he proposed, and I said yes. He also advised me to start selling bridal shoes, purses, casual slippers, and handbags. I listened to him and began selling those items.
