A Nigerian woman living in San Bernardino, California, displayed exceptional integrity by returning a substantial sum of N14.9 million ($37,500) that she unexpectedly found hidden in chairs received for free.
The incident unfolded when Vicky Umodu, the Nigerian woman, moved into a new home and sought furniture on Craigslist. The chairs, offered by a family looking to part with belongings from a late relative, were provided to Vicky Umodu without any charge.
To her surprise, upon inspecting the chairs, Vicky Umodu discovered a significant amount of cash discreetly stashed in one of them. Overwhelmed with the find, she exclaimed, “I was just telling my son, ‘Come, come, come!’ I was screaming, ‘This is money! I need to call the guy!'”
Determined to uphold honesty, Vicky Umodu promptly contacted the family who provided her with the chairs. Grateful for her integrity, the family expressed their appreciation, and in return, they gifted her N900,000 ($2,250).
“God has been kind to me and my children. They’re all alive and well. I have three beautiful grandchildren, so what can I ever ask from God?” said Vicky Umodu.
