An Abuja-based married man named Iruefi recently shared a story on social media about an encounter he had at a lounge. According to Iruefi, while he was relaxing at the lounge, a man in his late 40s summoned him through the bartender. Iruefi didn't recognize the man and found it odd that he was being summoned instead of approached directly.

Curious, Iruefi signaled to confirm if he was expected to go over to the man's location. The man nodded, affirming that Iruefi should come to him. However, Iruefi chose to ignore the request and continued enjoying his drink. The waiter returned after a few minutes to repeat the man's message, but Iruefi firmly responded that if the man wanted to talk, he should come to his table like a responsible person. Irritated by the persistence, Iruefi warned the waiter that he would be physically confronted if he continued delivering the message.

Eventually, the man approached Iruefi's table and questioned why he hadn't gone to meet him. However, his words were accompanied by a loud belch and the strong smell of alcohol, indicating that the man was heavily intoxicated. He then began praising Iruefi's appearance and tried to convince him to join his table, mentioning that he was with a few other people. Iruefi politely declined, stating that he came to the lounge to clear his head and preferred to stay where he was.

The man requested Iruefi's phone number, and without thinking much of it, Iruefi innocently obliged. However, as he started writing his number on a piece of paper provided by the waiter, he suddenly realized the unusual nature of the situation. Laughing to himself, he squeezed the paper and instructed the waiter not to bother him with any more requests from the man. Iruefi's bill was already taken care of by the man, which only added to his amusement.

After thanking the man and greeting the others at his table, Iruefi returned to his own table, ordered another drink, but left without even taking a sip. He hurriedly drove away, feeling thoroughly disgusted by the encounter. He had heard stories of "Abuja big men," particularly politicians, propositioning young men and boys, but he never imagined it would happen to him. Iruefi expressed his disbelief and disgust, considering the encounter to be one of the weirdest experiences of his life.

In his social media post, Iruefi concluded by emphasizing his astonishment and how quickly he left the lounge, remarking on the unsettling proposition he had just encountered.

He tweeted;

“Chilling in one ‘big man’ lounge, the bartender comes, “boss, that chairman sent me to call you”, I turned to see who it was and a man, in his late 40’s or so waved at me. I didn’t recognize him and surely if it was someone that knew me he’d have come to holla and not summon me.

I signaled with my hands and mouthed “you mean I should come meet you there”, he nodded in affirmation. I said okay, turned back to my drink and continued sipping like nothing happened. After about 5 minutes later, the waiter came back to repeat his earlier message.

I told him, “go and tell the man that if he wants to talk to me he should come here, that’s what responsible people do, and if you come back here again to deliver this message I will elbow you”. After about 2 minutes, the man came to my table and asked why I didn’t come.

I was about speaking when a loud belch roared from his mouth and a deep stench of alcohol saturated the atmosphere, apparently man was drunk af. He said “do you know what I can do for you young man? Do you know who owns this place?”

I told him “yes I do, I don’t know him personally though”. The man looked at me from hair to toe, at this point I was standing ‘cos I’d stood up to shake hands when he came to my table. I asked him if there was any problem, I didn’t just understand his game.

He said “I like you, you’re a handsome young man, and you look like a really cool guy” while rocking back and forth obviously due to his drunken state. I said “thank you sir, I appreciate your remarks”. He asked that I should come join his table, he was with a few people.

I told him I was okay where I was and that I actually came here to clear my head. He said he understands and that it happens, he asked for my number to which I quickly obliged, innocently. He went back to his table. Few minutes later, the waiter comes with a piece of paper & pen.

Boss he said you should write your number here”, I was in the middle of writing my number when I had a second thought; this is unusual, actually this is very unusual. I turned to look at his table again and something just clicked, bruh I just burst out laughing.

“I squeezed the paper and told the waiter not to come again with any requests from the man. I also asked him to get my bill to which he said “chairman has already covered it”. I shook my head and started laughing again, the waiter joined me, we both knew why I was laughing.

I walked up to his table and thanked him, I greeted the other men there with him, 3 of them or so. He stood up to shake me and was expecting me to squeeze in something into his palms; the paper with my number, so I thought. He asked if I was leaving to which I told him no.

I went back to my table, ordered another drink, filled my cup, stood up without taking even a sip, ran to my car and drove off. Like wtf! I was totally disgusted. I’d heard about ‘Abuja big men’ especially politicians propositioning young men/boys, didn’t think it’ll be me.

Bruhhh, so this modafvcka wanted to bend me over oh! A whole Iruefi, he no dey look face? I resemble onyé Udé? Chineke Nna’m! This has to be top on the list of my weirdest experiences ever, tf! I’m sure I did a 20 minutes ride in 5 minutes or less sef, bruh.”
