A man is reported missing following his ascent of Mount Everest

A 39-year-old British man identified as Daniel Paterson has been reported missing subsequent to his successful summit of Mount Everest.

Accompanied by his 23-year-old Nepali guide, Pastenji Sherpa, Paterson reached the summit around 4:40 AM on May 21st, marking a significant achievement in his mountaineering endeavor.

However, concerns arose during the descent as Paterson disappeared without a trace, prompting immediate apprehension regarding his safety.

According to Becks Woodhead, Paterson's climbing partner, the descent took a perilous turn, and despite concerted efforts to locate him, there has been no communication or sighting of him since then.

Woodhead elaborated on the challenging circumstances, suggesting that Paterson may have fallen into an area where he is virtually untraceable, emphasizing the severe conditions climbers confront on Everest, particularly above 8,000 meters where oxygen levels are critically low.

In a statement addressed to the press, Woodhead conveyed the distressing news, stating:

“On May 21st, at 4:40 AM, Daniel Paterson successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest. Tragically, during his descent, Daniel went missing, and there has been no contact or sighting of him since.”

“It has become apparent that the position regarding the search operation has changed over the course of the weekend.

“We are desperate to bring Dan home, but rest assured we are exploring all options to ensure the donations are used wisely.”
