In a surprising turn of events, a young Ghanaian man named Otu has reportedly taken legal action against his ex-girlfriend, Mercy Agyei. Otu claims that despite sponsoring her university education and making substantial financial investments, Mercy refused to marry him.

The narrative began six years ago in Kumasi, Ghana, where Otu proposed to Mercy and assumed the responsibility of funding her higher education. Beyond tuition, he started a business for her mother and fulfilled various financial commitments throughout their relationship. Following advice from Mercy’s mother, Otu relocated her to Tema, continuing financial support for her education at Accra Technical University (ATU) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Otu's assistance extended beyond education, encompassing support for Mercy's younger brother and accommodation for her mother. The situation took an unexpected turn when Mercy, securing a job at a bank in Ghana, decided to end their relationship.

Feeling betrayed by the significant investments he made, Otu has brought the matter to the Kumasi Circuit Court, seeking GH¢350,000 (approximately N26 million) in damages. The lawsuit contends that Otu’s financial contributions were made with the expectation of marriage.

Legal proceedings are pending, and court sessions are scheduled for February 20, providing both parties an opportunity to present their cases.
