An unidentified driver fled the scene after a fully loaded truck of concrete stones crashed into a cart pusher at the Goye Dopemu area of Lagos, resulting in a tragic accident.
According to a statement released by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the incident occurred on Sunday, May 28, 2023.
Badmus Abdul-Akeem, a spokesperson for LASTMA, stated that the cart pusher tragically lost his life on the spot.
Reports indicate that the driver was speeding with another trailer when the accident occurred, causing the truck to veer off the road and block the entire BRT corridor towards Dopemu.
Abdul-Akeem explained, "Upon discovering a trapped body underneath a fallen container, we immediately contacted the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) and the police from Gowon Divisional Police Headquarters for immediate rescue operations and investigations."
"While the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) worked to remove the fallen container from the BRT corridor, the lifeless body was handed over to members of the Hausa community in the Dopemu area, who had gathered at the scene armed with dangerous weapons," he added.
