A 24-year-old housewife, Hafsat Surajo, is in police custody in Kano for allegedly fatally stabbing a 38-year-old man, Nafiu Hafiz. The tragic incident unfolded as Hafiz attempted to intervene and prevent Hafsat from taking her own life, leading to a violent altercation that resulted in Hafiz's death, as revealed by the spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
The distressing episode came to light when Hafizu Salisu from Bauchi Metropolis reported the incident to the police after receiving a call from Dayyabu Abdullahi, Hafsat's husband, informing him of the death of his brother, Nafiu Hafiz.
Upon reaching the residence at Unguwa Uku Quarters in Kano, the family discovered Hafiz’s lifeless body bearing multiple stab wounds. Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, promptly ordered an investigation led by Divisional Police Officer, SP Abubakar Chika Zaki of Zaria Road Division.

The police statement revealed further details about the incident, stating that Hafsat Surajo admitted to stabbing the deceased multiple times with a knife during the struggle to prevent her from committing suicide.

The investigation led to the arrest of Hafsat Surajo, her husband Dayyabu Abdullahi, and their gateman Mallam Adam. The husband and gateman were apprehended for their role in packaging and concealing the dead body to hide the crime. The recovered knife, stained with blood from the crime, will serve as crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation. The suspects are expected to face charges in court upon the completion of the investigation.
