The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handpicked Victor Osimhen for a random drug test in recognition of his exceptional performance against Cameroon during the Round of 16 match at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire on Saturday, January 27.

According to a report from Vanguard, Osimhen’s tireless display and energetic speed led to his selection for a random drug test, a procedure usually conducted either through drawing lots for all players in a matchday squad or randomly if any unusual behavior is observed.
In a statement, DW Africa reported, “Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen had to undergo a random drug test after his tireless performance against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions. The Super Eagles forward was instrumental in both goals that gave Nigeria a much-needed win to advance to the quarter-finals.
“His tireless display has attracted the attention of Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials. He was also tested when Nigeria played Ivory Coast. Both tests turned out negative. CAF officials can randomly select a player for testing if they notice any unusual behavior. The current CAF Player of the Year is expected to lead the line for the three-time champions when they face Angola in the quarter-finals this week.”
