Naby Keïta has openly conveyed his emotional reaction to the announcement of Jürgen Klopp’s departure from Liverpool at the end of the current season.
The 28-year-old midfielder shared that the news moved him to tears, reflecting the deep bond he developed with Klopp since the manager signed him from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018 for a reported fee of €60 million.
Despite making 129 appearances for Liverpool and contributing with 11 goals and seven assists, Keïta faced challenges securing a regular spot in the starting lineup. Ultimately, he left the club on a free transfer to join Werder Bremen this summer.
Klopp's departure now marks the conclusion of an era for both the manager and Keïta. Klopp cited fatigue and burnout as factors leading to his decision to leave, following a successful tenure where he secured both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles with Liverpool.
Expressing deep respect and affection for Klopp, Keïta stated, “He took me to Liverpool like his son, and I consider him my dad. I wish all the best for him for the rest of his life. I will try to write to him.”
