Lionel Messi responded to criticism following boos from Inter Miami fans during a Hong Kong friendly, where he remained on the bench, not playing.
Despite Inter Miami's 4-1 victory against a Hong Kong side, disappointment echoed through the crowd, chanting 'Where is Messi?' and expressing discontent during the trophy presentation.
The Hong Kong government acknowledged Messi's absence, with Kevin Yeung, the secretary for culture, sports, and tourism, stating Messi was expected to play for 45 minutes.
In response, Messi addressed the situation, expressing his desire to play, especially during distant matches where fans eagerly anticipate their team's performance.
He stated, "Unfortunately, this happens in football. In any game, it can happen that you can't play. I hope we can return and play a game in Hong Kong."

Inter Miami's final pre-season match is against Messi's boyhood club, Newell’s Old Boys, before launching their MLS campaign at home against Real Salt Lake.
Messi, who scored 11 goals in 14 appearances in his debut season, played a vital role in Inter Miami's Leagues Cup triumph, marking their first-ever trophy win.
