Luis Diaz has been warned not to visit Colombia as authorities intensify efforts to locate his kidnapped father, Luis Manuel Diaz.
The Liverpool forward was informed of his parents’ abduction by armed men shortly before Liverpool’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
According to reports, Diaz had initially planned on returning to Colombia, but relatives persuaded him not to, for his own safety.
Security concern was the key reason in this decision, and Diaz has chosen to rely on the authorities, comprising of the police and military forces to resolve the situation.
While his mother has been released by the kidnappers, his father’s whereabouts remain unknown.
Cilenis was released from the hands of her captors with a reward of 200 million Colombian pesos, about £40,000 offered by the authorities for information.
Diaz’s father and mother were reportedly taken by four armed men on motorcycles while buying watermelons.
The Colombian army is said to be actively involved in the search, as they have deployed special military unit to guard the border with Venezuela and prevent any attempts to transport Luis Manuel across the border.
