Man strangles friend after visiting native doctor in Enugu

A 24-year-old man identified as Onuabuchi Agbo has been arrested by the police in Enugu State for allegedly strangling his 44-year-old friend, Peter Ukekwe, to death and burying him in a shallow grave after visiting a native doctor together. The incident occurred in Amori, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, where the two friends had gone to visit a native doctor named Onyeka Edeh.

According to the police, the suspect and the deceased, both residents of Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, had traveled to the location on April 1, 2023, but during the night hours, they left the native doctor's house for an unknown destination. The police conducted a search but could not find them until the following morning when the suspect was apprehended at Obe community in the same LGA, while he was attempting to escape back to Ogidi.

The suspect confessed to the crime, stating that he strangled his friend to death and buried him in a shallow grave in the bush. The police exhumed the victim's remains and deposited them in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The motive for the suspect's action is still unknown.

The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement, saying that the suspect has been arraigned and remanded in Enugu Custodial Centre for further hearing.

The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State CID Enugu for further investigation and conclusion.
