This victory adds to Messi's remarkable collection, which already includes eight Ballon d’Or titles. Despite his move to Inter Miami in 2023, Messi's influence remains undeniable, securing him the title of the world’s best player.

Meanwhile, Erling Haaland played a crucial role in Manchester City's triumphs in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League last season. On the other hand, Kylian Mbappe achieved success with Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 and the Trophee des Champions.

Messi, although absent from the event, had his award collected by presenter Thierry Henry. In a humorous twist, Henry explained why he would be keeping the award, considering he never won it himself. He also made a playful jab at Tottenham Hotspur, the team supported by fellow presenter Reshmin Chowhury.

“Tonight, someone’s going to have to take the trophy, shall I? I actually have two reasons for taking it. I never won it, so I’ll keep it. But you’re a Tottenham fan, right? That’s the other reason, you don’t usually get your hands on a trophy so I’ll take this one,” Henry added.
