Davies claims Barcelona rejected him due to being Canadian

Canadian [/b]football sensation Alphonso Davies has recently made a startling revelation, claiming that Spanish powerhouse FC Barcelona snubbed him before he ultimately joined Bayern Munich. Despite attracting interest from several top European clubs, including Barcelona, while playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer, Davies opted to make the move to Bayern Munich in 2019 for a then-record fee of $22 million for an MLS player. Since then, the talented full-back has become a force to be reckoned with, securing an impressive collection of trophies, including five Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokals, and one UEFA Champions League title during his tenure with the Bavarian giants. However, in a recent interview on the Say Less Podcast, Davies disclosed that although Barcelona approached him, the club's former president, Josep Bartomeu, allegedly showed no interest in him due to his Canadian nationality. Davies clarified that he deduced this from media reports rather than direct communication with Barcelona. Expressing his disappointment, he stated, "Barcelona approached me, but the president (Bartomeu) said they didn't want me because I was Canadian. It hurt my feelings a little bit. The fact that I was Canadian was being said in the press. I don't know if he actually said it, but it was being said." Despite this setback, Davies has gone on to achieve remarkable success with Bayern Munich. Notably, he has recently been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid and Manchester City. Having amassed over 150 appearances for Bayern and scoring eight goals, the talented footballer is now focused on representing the Canadian men's national team in the upcoming Concacaf Nations League semifinal against Panama at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on June 15. The Canadians are eager to secure their first men's continental trophy since 2000.
