Victor Boniface has made a return to Germany after his trip to Italy, where AC Milan are still undecided on whether to finalize his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen. The Serie A giants are said to be carefully reviewing the situation following concerns raised about the player’s fitness level and past injury record.
The 24-year-old Nigerian striker completed two rounds of medical examinations with the Rossoneri on both Friday and Saturday. However, medical specialists flagged issues regarding his right knee, which had previously suffered major injuries in 2019 and 2020. These setbacks, alongside his absence from several matches last season due to recurring muscle problems, have made Milan reluctant to immediately commit to a deal.
Reports suggest that the Italian club is taking its time before making a final decision. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, there is even a possibility that Milan might pull out of the negotiations altogether if they remain unconvinced about his long-term fitness. On the other hand, Sky Sport Italia revealed that the Rossoneri could still decide to sign Boniface and bring in another forward before the transfer window officially shuts.
Milan’s sporting director, Igli Tare, has stepped forward to clarify the club’s position. In his words: “There were no additional or secret medicals carried out on Boniface. We already had knowledge of his previous injuries and are currently assessing everything as part of our normal procedure regarding his health and overall fitness. His natural qualities are not in doubt; we only want to ensure that the decision we take is the most suitable for both the club and the player in the long term.”
The ongoing uncertainty surrounding the transfer could not have come at a more difficult period for Milan. The club began their Serie A campaign on a disappointing note, suffering a shock 2-1 home defeat against Cremonese on Saturday night. This poor start to the season has increased pressure on the management to strengthen their attacking options quickly, with Boniface’s situation now at the center of attention for fans and analysts alike.
As things stand, Boniface’s immediate future remains unresolved. While he has returned to Germany to rejoin Bayer Leverkusen’s camp, the final decision lies in Milan’s hands, and the outcome could shape not only the striker’s career path but also Milan’s attacking strength heading into the remainder of the season.
