Barcelona are considering a move for Darwin Nunez as part of their summer overhaul, with the Uruguayan potentially replacing Robert Lewandowski.
Recall Lewandowski has been tipped to be offloaded in a mass clear-out by the club at the end of the sesson.
Following La Liga’s stringent salary cap rules, Barcelona must trim their wage bill significantly to facilitate their planned projects.
Lewandowski, the highest earner at the club, is expected to be among the departures, given his substantial salary of £27m yearly.
Meanwhile, Nunez, currently at Liverpool, presents an attractive option for Barcelona, as his wage demands are considerably lower than Lewandowski’s.
Despite being one of Liverpool’s highest-paid players, Nunez’s salary is only a fraction of the Polish forward’s earnings, making him financially viable for Barca.
With several other players set to depart Barcelona at the end of the sesosn, club officials believe they can meet Liverpool’s asking price for Nunez if the Reds are willing to negotiate.
