Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson in Lagos, disclosed this information on Friday via a post on X.

Lagos commissioner of police,

The by-election for Surulere I federal constituency in the House of Representatives is set for Saturday, February 3, following the vacancy created when President Bola Tinubu appointed Femi Gbajabiamila, the immediate-past speaker of the house, as his chief of staff.

On Thursday, Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), issued an order restricting vehicular movement in 26 states where run-off and by-elections are scheduled to take place.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, stated in a release that the restriction applies to all forms of transportation, including roads, waterways, and other means, lasting from 12 am to 6 pm.

Hundeyin clarified that there would be no movement restrictions in other parts of Lagos unaffected by the poll, emphasizing that the restriction is specific to the election area, Surulere Federal Constituency I.

“However, Funsho Williams Avenue will be free for passage only. Movement into and out of feeder roads off Funsho Williams Avenue will not be permitted.

“There is no restriction of movement in other parts of the state.”

The elections will fill vacancies in three senatorial districts, 17 federal, and 28 state constituencies across 80 LGAs.

Individuals on essential services such as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accredited media personnel, and emergency responders are exempted from the movement restrictions.
