Peter Mbah, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu, has been declared the winner of the 2023 Governorship polls in the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The declaration of Mbah as the Governor-elect followed several days of controversy surrounding the results from Nkanu East Local Government Area. The Returning Officer, Prof. Maduebibisi Iwe, announced that the collation was taken over by the INEC national headquarters in Abuja after the Enugu office could not reach a consensus.
Mbah emerged victorious with 160,895 votes, slightly ahead of his closest rivals - Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party, who scored 157,552 votes, and Uche Nnaji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 14,575 votes.
