Nigerians took to the streets in large numbers, celebrating with joy and fervor the victory of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States. His recent re-election sparked widespread jubilation among supporters who gathered publicly to express their enthusiasm for the political shift in the U.S.
This celebratory gathering follows Trump’s triumph in the 2024 presidential race, where the former president and Republican candidate secured victory over his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, who was vying to make history as the first female president of the United States.
In a viral video circulating online, Nigerians are seen holding placards, singing, and celebrating the re-election of the politician who previously served as the 45th President of the United States. In the footage, participants could be heard singing, “Thank you, Jesus, we are grateful,” showing their joy and appreciation for Trump’s return to the White House.
The video has quickly gained traction and stirred a range of reactions, with some Nigerian social media users criticizing the celebratory act as unnecessary and embarrassing, questioning the relevance of such support for a foreign leader.
One social media user, @Mwdonly, expressed disapproval, suggesting, “They should be arrested for flying the flag of another country in Nigeria,” highlighting sentiments of disappointment with the display.
Another user, @BFolaa, added to the debate, alleging, “Na NGO work be that, e go get one origination (group of people) wey go arrange these people so that they can earn from the white…. The organization only need their Photos and Videos as evidence. They will later give all these people one rubber of rice to compensate them,” suggesting the event might have been orchestrated for specific gains.
