Umahi went on to reveal that his father had initially been admitted to a government hospital for treatment, where he was under the care of a doctor. Subsequently, he was referred to a private hospital owned by the same medical practitioner. However, the former governor contends that it was the negligence of the medical staff at the private hospital that ultimately led to his father's tragic passing.

This unfortunate incident shared by Umahi comes in the wake of another distressing account within the Nigerian Senate. Senate President Godswill Akpabio disclosed his personal experience with medical negligence, revealing that he had lost his first grandchild as a result of doctors' and nurses' negligence. Akpabio recounted the tragic event during the screening of Lagos state ministerial nominee Dr Tunji Alausa, stating, "Like many others, I have also been a victim of medical neglect. I experienced the loss of my first grandchild in 2019 at a federal medical center."

These heart-rending revelations underscore the urgent need for improved healthcare standards and the enforcement of rigorous protocols to prevent future cases of medical negligence, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients across Nigeria.
