A three-judge panel, led by Justice Adebukola Banjoko, reviewed the case and dismissed the Kano State Government’s appeal against an earlier Federal High Court ruling, citing a lack of merit. The judges concluded that there were no substantial grounds to overturn the lower court's decision, thus reinforcing Doguwa's acquittal.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Donatus Okorowo, had ruled that the charges brought against Doguwa violated his fundamental human rights, stating that the allegations were not substantiated by sufficient evidence. This ruling provided a pivotal moment for Doguwa, as it set a precedent regarding the treatment of political figures in legal matters.[/p>

Furthermore, the court restrained the Kano State Government from arresting, detaining, or prosecuting the lawmaker, awarding him damages amounting to N25 million. This decision not only clears Doguwa of the charges but also emphasizes the judiciary's role in safeguarding the rights of individuals against potential governmental overreach.

Doguwa, who represents the Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency of Kano State, had maintained throughout the proceedings that the offences related to the violence that occurred during the 2023 general elections in Kano were investigated as federal offences. His consistent assertions were backed by evidence that led to his clearance of any wrongdoing by both the Kano High Court and the police, establishing his innocence in the public eye.

Following the appellate court’s ruling, Doguwa expressed profound gratitude and reaffirmed his belief in the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary. He stated, “We appreciate Allah for once again vindicating me and absolving me from the mischief of my political opponents.” His remarks reflect a sense of relief and validation after a lengthy judicial struggle.

He further urged his constituents to celebrate this victory by thanking Allah, SWT, and to avoid any breach of law and order in their jubilation. Doguwa emphasized the importance of maintaining peace within the community, recognizing the potential for political tensions that can arise following such high-profile legal decisions.

In conclusion, Doguwa noted, “I have also accepted all that happened in the course of this judicial tussle as an act of God and taking it as an opportunity to prepare me for greater leadership challenges that are coming.” His optimistic outlook suggests a readiness to move forward and tackle the future challenges he may face as a public servant. The case underscores the complex intersection of law and politics in Nigeria and highlights the judiciary's crucial role in upholding justice.
