The US Embassy in Nigeria has described as false the news that they refused Faith Tabernacle visa to Bishop David Oyedepo.
A regional daily had announced a minor drama at the U.S. Embassy's Lagos office on Thursday after the visa was denied to Bishop David Oyedepo.
THISDAY newspaper found that the embassy did not give any other reason except the normal default explanation that in its evaluation the Bishop did not qualify for visa renewal, and urged him to try again.
In anger, David Oyedepo reportedly created a scene while querying the grounds for his refusal, stressing that he had been traveling to the states as far back as 1980s and had not violated any rules or committed any crime to have warranted being denied a renewal of his visa.
The report added that the Clergyman then called his bodyguards who gave him a phone which he used to make certain calls.
This has now been described as false news by the embassy.
A statement on the embassy’s official Twitter handle reads:
: “#FalseNews Alert! Be advised, the reports making the rounds about a visa being denied to Nigerian Bishop Oyedepo are false. If you have seen this manufactured item in the media, help defeat this #misinformation by communicating to everyone that it is completely false”.
