Emeka Chochoo, former manager of Nollywood actor John Okafor, widely known as Mr Ibu, has provided insights into the recent police summons of Mr Ibu’s adopted daughter, Jasmine Chioma Okafor, and his two sons, Daniel and Val.
The trio faced questioning regarding the management of funds donated by well-meaning Nigerians for Mr Ibu’s medical treatment, as disclosed by actress Doris Ogala, who broke the news. Jasmine and Mr Ibu’s sons were reportedly detained at Alagbon Police Station over allegations that Jasmine transferred a substantial sum, estimated at N300 million, from the donation account to her personal account.
The funds, intended for Mr Ibu’s medical expenses following surgery resulting in the amputation of one of his legs, became a point of contention amid suggestions that Mr Ibu’s wife, Stella Maris Okafor, initiated police involvement.
Stella Maris demanded transparency and accountability for the donated funds, accusing Jasmine of diverting the money for personal use. Allegedly, Stella Maris intended to use the funds to purchase a new house.
“Mr. Ibu’s wife alleged that Jasmine moved N300 million out of the account. Ibu’s wife allegedly wanted them to buy her a new house from the money contributed so far for Ibu’s treatments. That’s why she arrested Jasmine,” stated Doris Ogala.
Responding to the unfolding events, Emeka Chochoo clarified that the police invitation was not equivalent to an arrest, emphasizing that Jasmine, Daniel, and Val were summoned to inquire about Mr Ibu’s account. Val, having recently returned to the country, was reportedly unaware of the ongoing developments.
“Yes, they were all invited by the police. I won’t call it arrest; the police invited them over Mr Ibu’s account. However, Val is left out as he knows nothing about what’s been happening. He just returned to the country,” clarified Emeka Chochoo.
In the midst of the controversy, with Mr Ibu’s wife and adopted daughter previously appealing for financial support from Nigerians after the actor's surgery, the situation has taken an unexpected turn with the unfolding drama surrounding the management of the donated funds.
